HELLENIC RAILWAYS COMPANY: Since 16 October 1925, the processes for the unification of transport in Attica had begun. On 1 April 1926, the Elliniki Ilektriki Sidirodromi (EHS) were founded with a share capital of 418.000 Pounds Sterling as a result of the merger of the SAP and the Company Tramways Athens - Piraeus - Suburbs, undertaking the exploitation of the electric railway Athina - Pireas by the SAP and the coastal tram line by the company Tramways as well as the obligation to modernize and expand the network. The first years of operation built the suburban tramway line Pireas - Perama and extended the tunnel from Omonia to Attica Square in order to connect with the Athina - Kifisia line former Attica Railways. On 23 July 1954, the HEM granted the right to electrify and operate the Athina - Kifissia railway (from Attica Square) to the EHS. On 10 August 1957, at the end of the electrification works of the Athens - Kifissia line, the last section was delivered to traffic and so a long-term plan for the creation of an electric railway is completed, which would connect Pireas with Kifisia, essentially connecting the two original lines of the SAP and the Attica Railways. The operation of the EHS continued until 1 January 1976, when they were nationalized and renamed to HSAP.
