RAILWAY LINE ATHINA - KIFISIA - DIONISSOS: The first contract for the construction and operation of the 1 meter wide railway line, which would connect Athina with Lavrion, was signed on 4 May 1882, which provided for a branch from Iraklio to Kifisia also by a metric line. On 22 June 1882, the contract was ratified by law and in December of the same year the Sidirodromi Attikis SA (Attika Railway Company) was founded with a share capital of 5.400.000 drachmas, which would be paid by the Lavrion Metallurgies Company. On 4 February 1885, the first section from Attiki Square to Kifisia, 15 km long, was inaugurated. On 20 June 1885 the inauguration of the second section Iraklio - Lavrion took place. Then and unknown date we have the extension of the line from Kifisia to Strofili and then to the marble quarries of Dionissos owned by an English company. From the station of Kifisia the line continued north on Strofilou Street and then on Georgiou Papandreou Street in Nea Erithrea and on Rodon Street in Ekali. Then, he turned right on Aidonos Street, continued on Athinon Avenue, which continues to Nikolaou Plastiras and then to Agios Georgios and reached Dionysos station before the intersection with Bakchon Street. Strofyli stop and Dionissos station basically served commercial transport, except for the holidays, when people were travelling to the northern suburbs (there was no urban fabric at that time) for recreation. In the first years passengers from Omonia (beginning of the 3rd September street) were transported by bus to Attici Square and since 1889 the strarting point was transferred from Attici Square to Lavrion Square (near Omonia square). With the establishment of the Ilektriki Eteria Metaforon HEM (Electric Transport Company) on 1 April 1926, the company undertakes the operation of the Athina - Kifisia line with the obligation to modernize it, which included its conversion to a normal range, its connection to the line of the EHS Pireas - Athina through an underground tunnel, which would connect the stations of Omonia and Attiki. With the start of the works in 1926, the starting point was transferred again from Lavrion Square to Attika Square with the promotion of passengers being done by tram of HEM. On 8 August 1938, the last route (Therion) from Athina to Kifisia took place, when the first section of the line Athina - Lavrio ceased to exist. Immediately we have the beginning of work for the implementation of the obligations on the part of the HEM, but in 1940 with the entry of Greece into the war, we have a break in the works. On 23 July 1954, an additional contract was signed between the Greek State and the EHS, which granted the right to operate the line from HEM to the Hellenic Electric Railways (EHS). On the existing alignment of the old metric line Athina - Kifisia, with small diversions, the construction of a double line of normal range with electrification from Attiki to Kifisia will begin, thus unifying the two networks into one and connecting Pireas with Kifisia. On 1 March 1948, Victoria station was put into use, on 30 June 1949 the station of Attiki. On 12 February 1956 we have the construction of the line reaching the Ano Patisia, on 14 March 1956 in Nea Ionia, on 4 March 1957 in Neo Iraklio and on 10 August 1957 with the delivery to traffic of Kifisia station we have the final form of the "Ilektrikos" railway of Athens or Line 1 of the metro, as it is called today.
