RAILWAY LINE PIREAS - ATHINA - KORINTHOS - PATRA: The first contract for the construction of a railway line, which would connect Pireas and Athina with Patra via Korinthos, was signed on 31 August 1881, but it was never executed. The second contract was signed on 19 April 1882 between the Minister of Interior Charilaos Trikoupis and Ioannis Doumas, Director of the General Credit Bank, for the construction of the above line, 1 meter wide, as well as the connection of Korinthos with Mili Nafpliou and Nafplion of the same range. This contract was ratified by the Parliament on 22 June 1882 and provided for the establishment of a Societe Anonyme Company under the name Sidirodromi Pireos - Athinon - Peloponnisou SPAP (Piraeus-Athens-Peloponnese Railways), which had the right to construct and operate the line. The inauguration of the construction of the line took place on 8 November 1882 in the place of the current station of Pireas. On 30 June 1884, the 35,630 km section of Pireas - Elefsis was delivered. Because the construction of the line was carried out simultaneously in more areas, on 12 July 1984, the 9,951 km long-distance section of Kalamaki - Korinthos was delivered, as the Korinth Canal was covered in 1893, when the railway bridge was constructed. On 16 September 1884 the section Megara - Kalamaki with a length of 33,885 km was delivered and on 19 September 1885 the section Korinthos - Kiato, length 20,704 km. On 4 August 1886, the line Kiato - Kamari with a length of 19,274 km was delivered and on 18 May 1887 we have the delivery of the section Kamari - Derveni length 14,699 km and on 11 June 1887 of the section Derveni - Akrata length 8,489 km. From Akrata to Eghion the line was delivered on 9 August 1887 and finally on 10 December 1887 the line is completed reaching the city of Patra. On 27 May 1892, the line to Patra beach of 2,180 km long operated. The kilometer numbering of the stations and stops for the Pireas - Patra section, started from the station of Pireas. In 2011, the traffic of trains on the lines of the Peloponnese (except the rack railway Diakopto - Kalavrita) stopped, when the network was considered unprofitable to continue. On 27 September 2005 we have the completion of the extension of the Proastiakos Sidirodromos (Suburban Railway) up to Korinthos with a line of normal range and in a new alignment leaving out the old metric line. On 9 July 2007, the Suburban Railway operated routes to Kiato and on 22 June 2020 it reached Eghion as part of the program to reconnect Patra with Athina. From Korinthos to Patra the line in some sections followed the old route, resulting in many stations being demolished to cross the new line (a typical example is Platanos station).
