RAILWAY LINE SKIDRA - PROMACHI & APSALOS - ORMA: In July 1916 began from Skidra the construction of a line length of 28,4 km and width of 0,60 meters (type Decauville) to Aridea. The design was made by French engineers, the layer materials, as well as the rolling stock came from France and the responsibility of construction was taken over by the Serbian army. The purpose of the line was to help promote supplies and materials for the conduct of allied forces operations in the wider region of Macedonia during WWI. On 12 August 1916, the Skidra - Nea Zoi section was delivered and on 10 September 1916 it arrived in Apsalos, while in the first days of December 1916 it arrived in Aridea. Due to the positive development of the enterprises, it was deemed necessary to extend the existing network from Apsalos to Orma 13,386 km long and from Aridea to Promachi. On 20 July 1918, construction work began towards Orma. On 28 August 1918, the line reached in Megaplatanos and in a few days in Orma. During the same period the section Aridea - Promachi was constructed. After the end of the war the French forces left the lines to the Greek state. On 10 August 1923 the Greek State signed a concession agreement with Ep. Charilaos for the operation of the line, with a period of validity of 50 years starting since 29 August 1923. On 5 February 1924, the Topiki Sidirodromi Macedonias TSM (Local Railways of Macedonia) (Chemin de Fer d' Interet Local de Macedonie), were established, with a share capital of 10.000.000 drachmas amounting to 100.000 shares of a nominal value of 100 drachmas each. During the short period of its operation, the network became known as "The Karatzova Train". In 1929 the company declared a lock-out and in 1932 the exploitation of the network was undertaken by the SEK. In 1936 the line ceased to operate and within the same year it was permanently dismantled. The kilometer numbering up to Promachi started from the station of Skidra, while for the junction to Orma, from Apsalos, which was the detour.
