RAILWAY LINE PIRGHOS - KATAKOLON: On 1 October 1881, the construction of the line was auctioned, which was awarded to the General Credit Bank. In January 1882 the construction of the 13 km long line begins with width of 1 meter, which was completed on 8 November 1882. The inauguration and the opening of the operation took place on 3 February 1883. The main purpose of the line was the connection of Pirghos with the nearest port that was the Katakolon, which served the transport of agricultural products. On 13 June 1883, the societe anonyme Sidirodromos Pirghou - Katakolou SPK (Pirghos-Katakolon Railway) was created with a share capital of 1.450.000 drachmas. The SPK had their own station, in the city of Pirghos, from where the kilometer numbering of the line began. In 1890 the SPK were acquired by the Eteria Mesimvrinon Sidirodromon Ellados EMSE (Company of Meridian Railways of Greece), which would soon face problems. In 1951 the SPK belongs to the Sidirodromi Pireos - Athinon - Peloponnisou SPAP (Piraeus-Athens-Peloponnese Railways). In 2011, as in the entire Peloponnese network, so here, we have the end of the network's operation.
