RAILWAY LINE MILI NAFPLIOU - KALAMATA (LEFKTRON MEGALOPOLIS & ASPROCHOMA - MESSINI): On 30 April 1888, a contract was signed by Charilaos Trikoupis and Louis Rossels as general manager of the International Society of Buildings and Public Works Contractors, for the construction of the 1 meter wide line, Mili Nafpliou - Tripolis - Kalamata. On 2 February 1889, the above contract was ratified by law. On 28 May 1889, the Eteria Mesimvrinon Sidirodromon Ellados EMSE (Company of Meridian Railways of Greece) was founded, with the concession by the construction company of the right to operate the Mili Nafpliou - Kalamata line. The company already in the late 1890s began to face financial problems, as the construction company can not complete the line until Tripolis. On 17 December 1891, the construction company was declared deposed and the assignment of the construction and operation of the section from Tripolis to Diavolitsi, was won by SPAP. On 1 February 1892, the sections Mili Nafpliou - Tripolis and Kalamata - Diavolitsi were delivered to traffic, which are still legally operated by EMSE, as well as the section Asprochoma - Messini with a length of 4,655 km (which ceased operations on February 5, 1979). Due to the bankruptcy of the General Credit Bank, SPAP loses its capital and a time of financial difficulties follows, resulting in the delay in the completion of the line. So the section Tripolis - Kourtagha length 50,571 km were delivered to traffic on 10 September 1897 and the section Kourtagha - Chrani with a length of 5,134 km on 5 October 1898. Then the section Diavolitsi - Desila 6,126 km long, was delivered on 1 January 1899 and the bypass line from Lefktro to Megalopolis on 26 May 1899 (which also interrupts its traffic on 5 February 1979). The last section Chrani - Desila length 15,338 km it was delivered to traffic on 4 November 1899, when the connection of Mili Nafpliou with Kalamata was completed. In 1899 we have the absorption of EMSE by the SPAP. Another reason for the long delay in the delivery of the section Tripolis - Diavolitsi, was the massif, which had to be accessed by engraving in difficult territorial outbursts. The starting point of the kilometer numbering of the stations, is the station of Korinthos and for the sections Megalopolis and Messini the stations of Lefktron and Asprochoma respectively. In the section Mili Nafpliou - Kalamata the traffic was permanently interrupted in 2011.
