RAILWAY LINE KRIONERI - AGRINION: On 24 October 1887, a concession contract was signed for the construction of the Messologhi - Etolikon - Agrinion line with a length of 44 km and 1 meter wide. The above convention was ratified by law in parliament on 14 December 1887. On 13 June 1888, the construction of the line began. On 2 January 1890, a new contract was ratified for the construction of an extension of the line under construction from Messologhi to the port of Krioneri, 17 km long, in order to connect the network with that of SPAP, through a ferry from the port of Patra to the one of Krioneri. The kilometer of the network starts from the port of Krioneri. In March 1890, the Sidirodromi Vorioditikis Ellados SVDE (Railway Company of Northwestern Greece) was founded. In October 1891 the traffic of the Messologhi - Agrinion line began. In 1896 it was decided to construct a section of 2 km long Kalivia - Acheloos line, which was delivered to traffic in 1897. In 1909-10 two more branches were constructed with a total length of 10,6 km with the first one connecting Messologhi station with the city center and the second, Etolikon station with Neochorion and the Katochi, with the kilometer measured from the station of Etolikon. In 1943, during the occupation, the Italian forces dismantled the section Etolikon - Katochi. In 1952 the SVDE went bankrupt and since 1953 the network belongs to the SPAP. In 1975 the network was abandoned and its operation ceased permanently, without a total dismantling of the lines.
