RAILWAY LINE PATRA - PIRGHOS:
In May 1887, a contract was signed between the Ministry of Interior and SPAP on the one hand, the Companies of Public and Municipal Works and Piraeus Gaslight on the other, for the construction and operation of the Patra - Pirghos line 1 meter wide. The two companies, unable to complete the project, sold their rights to SPAP. The SPAP with a contracted construction company undertook and completed the project in part by March 1890. On 15 December 1888 the Patra - Achaia section of 20,552 km is completed. On 28 May 1889 the section Achaia - Manolas with a length of 23,372 km was delivered and then on 20 August 1889 the section Manolas - Lechena with a length of 19,583 km was released, while on 28 December 1889 the section Lechena - Amalias with a length of 19,583 km was given to circulation. This was followed by the last section of Amalias - Pirghos which was delivered on 29 March 1890 thus completing the railway union of Patra with Pirghos. The kilometer numbering started from the station of Patra. After repeated fluctuations and faced with the bankruptcy of SPAP at the end of 1899, discussions began for the extension of the line to Meligala with a detour to Kiparissia. The line ceased to operate permanently in 2011.
